As I have written, one of the colors of tourmaline I wanted to obtain when I started cutting again after many years was blue purple. One of the best things about being able to purchase unheated Mozambique cuprian tourmaline for awhile was the relatively abundance of blue purple tourmaline. I have come to the conclusion that copper and manganese does produce purples, that if found without copper, must be very rare. This comes from the fact that I have not been able to obtain a nice specimen of medium toned non cuprian blue purple tourmaline.
I have found a site that has a price list for tourmaline that includes blue purples and they declare them to be “common”. If that is so and I have missed the boat, would the people on board please send me their experiences with blue purple tourmaline. I need to know.
